Improving Software Lead Generation Without Breaking It

Like software, lead generation can leave lot of room for improvement. And also like software, there are those who like to tinker or experiment just to realize those improvements. The problem is too much tinkering can irrevocably break something (whether its in technology or lead generation). As much as those flops can be great learning experiences, are their other ways you could find out?


Finding Alternative Lead Generation Experiments

Even in actual scientific experiments, there are still limits to what you can do for testing. (You cannot just run testing on your fellow humans for example.) What you need to do is to define those limits for the process of experimenting with lead generation tool and tactics. The tricky part is that there are different factors to consider like how different it is from previous lead generation methods, what software leads to expect etc.

  • How many attempts can you make? - How much can you set aside to try out an experimental lead generation strategy? You have good reasons to minimize experiments if you cannot afford any possible losses. At best, try to do this when your current lead generation setup can back up in case the worse happens and avoid making extreme predictions.

  • Are substitutes needed? - Crash tests do not use real people for obvious reasons but what about you? Is there a chance that you might test your lead generation experiment on a dummy of its own? After all, real leads are still have real value that you should not be too quick to lose.

  • What will you change after the results? - Finally, you cannot just keep experimenting without some sign of progress. (This is another reason why you need set number of attempts). There comes a point where you have to ask yourself: Can you or can you not use this in your next software lead generation campaign?

Perhaps there will be a time when damage just cannot be prevented. Just make sure that damage does not utterly destroy your entire lead generation process and lose all your B2B sales leads. Find ways to keep your lead generation experiments safely isolated just as you would isolate technological experiments too keep it from affecting the rest of a network or a system.
